Bio: "Super intense and completely focused...his attention to detail consistently raised the quality bar." - Christopher Gaspar, playordownload.com "Totally unique." - Michael Travis (String Cheese Incident, Zilla, EOTO) My improvised live paintings are hand-illustrated with opaque watercolor pens on black board during concerts. I don't use computers or measuring tools, nor do I ever start knowing anything more than the basic geometry of the piece. Each painting grows from an evolving visual genome that I rarely see even a moment in advance. Instead I listen to the throb of the house and the crowd and translate that into cross-sections of fireworks and undersea faeries, closed-eye tesselations and luminous fossils...vivid scenes of unabashed intensity. In order to communicate the universal celebration of form arising from and as emptiness, I paint verdant and exultant imagery closer to the natural language of dreams than to the artifice of religious iconography - unattached to any precise cultural coordinates, but just as immediately familiar and significant. I am a scientific illustrator by training, and my work reflects that - it's a field guide to the living minor deities that emerge at the energetic nexuses of live music, the boundary-living superconscious electric winged spirits that crash into being through a dancing throng while I am a seismograph and portraitist, swaying to their breath. These paintings are the ripples they make as they pass through us.
